U-37 Schumacher Racing had a strong showing at the Columbia Cup race held this past weekend in the Tri Cities. Substitute drive J.W. Meyers grabbed two 1st place heat finishes and a overall 3rd place in tight deck to deck racing in the final heat. Regular driver Jean Theroet, who was injured at a race earlier this season will be testing this week in Seattle with reserve driver J.W. Meyers ready to take over. Seattle is home for the U-37 so look for a all-out performance from the team this weekend at the Seafair cup on Lake Washington, their home coarse.

It’s not very often that we as society get to witness perfection, but yesterday Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox threw the 18th perfect game in the history of baseball.  To put this in perspective for those of you that don’t follow baseball, a perfect game means that the starting pitcher retires every batter that he faces, without allowing a walk, a hit, or an error to be made.  Essentially this means that 27 players came up to bat, and Buehrle didn’t let a single one of them reach base safely.  Major League Baseball has been in existance for 140 years, and to date there have been 173,779 games played.  In those 173,779 games, there are always two starting pitchers, so if we double that number we get the total number of starts pitchers have made in history, which is 347,558.  18 of those starts have been perfect.

Something happened yesterday that only happens .0051789917079 % of the time.

After a horrific crash last Saturday at the Madison (Ind.) Regatta on the Ohio River, Road and U-37 driver Jean Theoret has thankfully made a full recovery and will be able to race again soon. Thanks to the speedy efforts of the rescue team, Theoret was resuscitated and saved after drowning in the cockpit.  Here’s what he had to say about the accident in a Detroit Free Press article.

“My mask was on my face, but the tube that brings air to the mask was broken, and I didn’t know that,” Theoret said. “So as soon as water started to get into the cockpit, in my mind, I had air. So I took a swallow of air, but it was water. After two gulps of water, that was it. I passed out and drowned.”

Here’s to a full recovery and a safe rest of the season, not only for Theoret, but all drivers on the cirtuit.  Hopefully Theoret will be back in the boat and get a win at Seafair July 31 – August 2.
